MAHA MOHAN

My art practice explores existential tension, rooted in lived experiences, through ceramic sculptures and drawings. It centers on figurative abstraction,  where the body exists as both a vessel and a site of memory with tenderness and fracture coexist. I see clay as a living medium, paralleling human experience, quietly capturing and preserving the mental and physical traces of life. The soft, fragile nature of clay becomes a metaphor for vulnerability, while its resilience speaks to the profound capacity for strength and transformation. This duality forms a continuum that binds narratives, memories, and questions, a space where time dissolves and possibility unfolds. Its ability to be shaped, broken, and reformed mirrors the cyclical nature of healing and evokes a ritualistic practice of repetition in my work, where each gesture is both an offering and an act of becoming.

Rawness carries an undeniable beauty - unfiltered, unpolished, and unrestrained. It holds truth, vulnerability, and an honest presence. I see the grains and textures as landscapes, like frozen moments of time within the stone. It holds its own history, its own quiet vastness, untouched and serene.

Roots, Seeds and Plates
“Roots, Seeds, and Plates” is a performance driven art piece that invites viewers into a world of anticipation, longing, and unfulfilled desires. At the heart of this work lies a dinner table, laden with an array of carefully curated dishes, symbolic sculptures and plates that carry not only sustenance but stories, memories, and the longing for connection. It is an exploration of the deep emotional complexity of absence and the quiet hope for togetherness.
